From the Slopes of Mt. Elgon: The Story of Uganda Bugisu
High on the eastern rim of Uganda, where clouds curl around the ancient slopes of Mount Elgon, lies the Bugisu region. In this place, altitude, soil, and craft come together to create one of Africa’s most distinctive coffees, Uganda Bugisu AA. Its unique qualities make it a must-try for any coffee enthusiast.
Here, at elevations reaching 2,200 meters above sea level, the air stays cool, and the volcanic soil is deep and fertile. Smallholder farmers—many from the Bagisu tribe—grow Bourbon and SL28 coffee trees on narrow terraces carved into the mountain. When the cherries ripen to a deep crimson, they’re picked by hand and carefully processed using the washed method. This meticulous process ensures the coffee’s inherent clarity and brightness shine through.
Our light roast brings out the elegant side of this origin — the shimmering acidity of orange, the subtle sweetness of dried figs and plum, and the delicate finish of black tea and winey complexity.
Each cup is a story of patience and precision: from the volcanic heart of Mt. Elgon to the hands that sort every bean, to the final pour that reaches your table.
Uganda Bugisu AA reminds us that great coffee isn’t only about caffeine — it’s about altitude, origin, and the quiet pursuit of excellence that transcends borders. The connection between its origin and quality will surely reassure you of your choice.
Available freshly roasted at Everyday Coffee Roasters. Best enjoyed black or with a light dessert, allowing its fruit and tea-like notes to unfold naturally.
